According to Tice, R and W Robinson manufactured the large Dome V.M.I. buttons for use on the dark blue, single breasted frock coats.  Tice says it is extremely rare compared to the low convex two-piece type.  This specimen has approximately 80% gold gilt and a perfect face.  The back is slightly indented with a strong straight loop.  An amazing museum quality button!
