Museum Quality Americana
A soldier, Augustus A. Gibson, writing from Fort Monroe, Virginia, December 23, 1841, writes to his sweetheart, Miss Hathaway, and draws her two intriguing pen and ink sketches. The first part of the letter talks about the weather in Buffalo (where Miss Hathaway lives). The second part of the letter describes the areas around Fort Monroe and Hampton, Virginia. For postal history enthusiasts, the letter has been folded and mailed with an “Old Pt. Comft. Va. Cancel” and a “paid 25.” The letter is in good condition with minor separations at the folds and two holes that the wax seal made when the letter was opened. The art work is very intricate and well done. The front page is perfect for display!
