Five long pages, written in beautiful pen ship in nice dark ink, describes the devastation of Sherman’s epic march through the Carolinas.

“…The men had long desired to walk through South Carolina and

vowed eternal vengeance… they made their vow good.”

If you want one letter that takes you through Sherman’s march step by step describing the burning and terror that inflicted, this is it!  The letter is written by Captain William R. Bennett and is headed, “Camp 143^rd N.Y. Vols. near Goldsboro, N.C. March 27^th, 1865.”  Here is the transcription with some of the great parts underlined:

The letter is in fine condition with only a few minor flaws.
