Civil War... Our Specialty
Scarce "Lincoln-Style" I.D.

Of all the different styles of I.D. tags, perhaps the most desirable is the one that has President Abraham Lincoln “War of 1861” on its obverse.  Not only is this tag of that style, but it was dug at a place that Lincoln had visited!  Our tag was excavated at Fort Lincoln, one of the forts that made up the “Defenses of Washington.”  The tag belonged to James H. Vance, age 21, who enlisted 12/14/1861 into the 2nd PA. Artillery.  After spending almost two years guarding the Capitol, Vance reenlisted on 12/28/63 and was detailed as a 9th Corps. Sharpshooter!  Fortunately for us, Vance lost his I.D. while at Fort Lincoln.  I.D. is overall fine with the brass quite dark (if one wanted, the tag could be cleaned to a brighter appearance, but we will leave that decision to the buyer).
