COMMEMORATING THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CIVIL WAR WITH

THE FINEST ORIGINAL SOLDIER'S LETTERS AND ARTIFACTS

Rare "South Carolina Society" Membership Token - D C Levy, was Later in
Company D of Manigault's Battalion of Light Artillery

This is the only example we have seen of this ¼ inch membership medal dated March 28th, 1857.  It is of a white medal and is in extremely fine condition.  On the front is a hand holding some foliage with the word “Posteritate” under it and around the rim “Centennial Celebration of So. Ca. Society Mar. 28, 1857.”  On the reverse centered is, “Was admitted a member of the So. Ca. Society”.  The name “D.C. Levy” is crudely scratched in at the top.  We checked the Civil War Database and found that there was a D.C. Levy in Company D of Manigault’s South Carolina Battalion of Light Artillery.  For the token/medal collector we doubt if you will see another piece like this… We certainly haven’t in 40+ years!
