COMMEMORATING THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CIVIL WAR WITH

THE FINEST ORIGINAL SOLDIER'S LETTERS AND ARTIFACTS
Charleston, S.C. Under British Control - Revolutionary War British Pass - October 1782

An exceptionally rare Revolutionary War British pass through the lines, a partly-printed document, 1 page, legal size, “Charlestown, S.C., Oct. 17, 1782.”  The pass reads in part:

“…By Isaac Allen, Esquire, Lieutenant-Colonel of His Majesty’s 3rd Batt’n New Jersey Volunteers and
Commandant of Charlestown, etc. etc. etc. Permission is hereby given to Mr. Thomas Young to
proceed with a Flag of Truce to Mr. Izard’s Plantation on his private business from whence he is to
return to this Town.  Therefore, for his safe conveyance and return, all persons whatsoever,
are to hold sacred andinviolate this my passport and flag of truce…”

Signed by Allen at conclusion, also signed by a William Sarney as Senior Officer, and additionally signed by a secretary.  A few tiny holes at fold junctions, small chips at lower-left corner, overall very good.  Revolutionary War Passes of any kind are quite rare!
