Point Lookout Prison P.O.W. Cover - WITH .03 CENT U.S. STAMP & .10 CENT
GREEN-BLUE CS STAMP - From J. A. Clark, Company B, 15th Va. Cavalry
Here is a great cover for display showing the use of both the U.S. stamp and Confederate stamp prisoners of war had to use to get their mail home. Point Lookout was located in Maryland and the writer of the cover, J. A. Clark of the 15th Virginia Cavalry, was sending it home to his wife in Nelson Station, Nelson County Virginia. The orange colored cover has been professionally re-backed but has the original flap. The front of the cover has a “Point Lookout, Md. Oct. 13 ‘64” cancelation and a “Prisoners letter, examined” hand-stamp in double-line octagon on the left side. In the upper left-hand corner is written “Per Flag of Truce” and on the lower left side from “J. A. Clark Co. B 15th Va. Cavalry”. Again, a great cover for display!
