Charleston slave tags dated during the Civil War are very popular and this example, dated 1861, has a strong stamping and pleasing patina.  The occupation is Servant, No. 1343 and like all slave tags has the word Charleston across the top.  The tag measures 1 ½ x 1 ½ inches.  To highlight the details of the tag in a photo, we placed a “dusting” of dirt on the tag.  You can see how attractive this tag displays!
