Order Given by General Ripley - Charleston July 23, 1863: General DeSaussure
S.C. Militia will Assume Command of the Troops in this City
This document is the retained copy sent to Governor Pickens. It is signed “By Command of Brig. Genl. Ripley, William T. Vance A.A.G.” At the top is an imprint, “Head Quarters, 1st Military District Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.” The paper is a very thin tissue-type and the writing is nice dark ink. The piece has some minor toning and is in very good condition. A significant piece for the Charleston collector!
