Old First Virginia

Colorful 10 ½ by 13 inch honorable service broadside presented to Frank H. Langley by the Old First Virginia Infantry Association.  The document states that Langley served as Sergt., Lieut., Capt., Major and Lieut. Colonel in the “Old First.”  Langley served from April 21st 1861 until the last day of the war in 1865.  Judging from all the ranks that he held, he must have done it all!  The First Virginia Regimental states that Langley was captured at Sayler’s Creek at the end of the war and was sent to Johnson’s Island P.O.W. Camp.  The document is signed by William H. Palmer, who served on Gen. A. P. Hill’s staff and was wounded at Williamsburg and Chancellorsville.  The document is also signed by Charles T. Loehr who was wounded at Gettysburg and Cold Harbor and after the war was the author of War History of the Old First Virginia Infantry Regiment.  The broadside is in fine condition with minor staining and still has vibrant colors making it an excellent piece for a Confederate display!
