This 1834 Charleston “Porter” Slave tag was found attached to a trunk in Charleston, South Carolina. It was being used as a keyhole plate! What a great “practical” relic! The patina is gorgeous and as I am sure you know, non-excavated slave tags are extremely rare! The keyhole has been cut out of the center of the tag and there are four holes where it was attached to the trunk. This is truly a great conversation piece, very displayable and an attention grabber!
