Document of “Property Taken, Destroyed or Injured During the Morgan Raid through Ohio in July 1863”
This document measures 7 ½ x 12 inches. At the top is the claimant, John R. Miller, East Springfield, Jefferson Co. Ohio. Miller suffered loss by Union forces under the command of General Shackelford on the 27th day of June 1863. His loss was “One Sorrel mare 6 years old 15 ½ hands high perfectly sound and worth… Eighty-five dollars.”

In the rest of the document, Miller signs his name and it is sworn before the Justice of the Peace and two witnesses.

We will provide a copy photo of Morgan that would look great framed with this piece. Condition is fine with one slight loss on the left side. A nice collectible of this famous raid!
