A beautiful Massachusetts “Minute Men 1861” Medal given to the men who were first to go in the defense of their country.  This medal belonged to Asa H. Melvin, Co.G, 5^th Mass. Infantry, who appropriately was from Concord, Mass. (home of the “original” Minute Men).  Melvin’s name is inscribed around the edge of the medal.  Unfortunately, Melvin never got a chance to wear his medal as he reenlisted and joining the 1^st Mass. heavy artillery was killed in Petersburg, Virginia, 6/16/64, and his body never recovered.  Asa’s photo is pictured in the Civil War data base (which we pictured below).  The medal is in pristine condition, truly magnificent!
