A beautiful Massachusetts “Minute Men 1861” Medal given to the men who were first to go in the defense of their country. This medal belonged to Asa H. Melvin, Co.G, 5th Mass. Infantry, who appropriately was from Concord, Mass. (home of the “original” Minute Men). Melvin’s name is inscribed around the edge of the medal. Unfortunately, Melvin never got a chance to wear his medal as he reenlisted and joining the 1st Mass. heavy artillery was killed in Petersburg, Virginia, 6/16/64, and his body never recovered. Asa’s photo is pictured in the Civil War data base (which we pictured below). The medal is in pristine condition, truly magnificent!
