Museum Quality Americana
On May 7, 1915, the R.S.M. Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine. On board, were 1,951 passengers and crew, of whom 1,198 perished. The Germans (War Lords) apparently were quite proud of this feat, as they distributed a medal commemorating the sinking. This original German medal was about 3 inches across. To show how spiteful Germany was and to elicit patriotic fervor, in America a copy of the German medal was produced and sold. It was an exact replica of the original German medal with the exception of it being a little smaller at 2 1/8 inches across. The medal that is here offered still has the original box, which is well worn, but complete and excellent for display.
