An Amazing Excavated Pair of Abraham Lincoln Campaign Tokens – One from the 1860 Campaign Excavated at Manassas & the other 1864 Campaign Excavated near Cedar Creek
Obviously the little photograph in the center is no longer present, but the strong amount of gold gilt makes these little gems really stand out. The 1860 Lincoln and Hamlin was dug near Manassas, Virginia, where the first battle of Bull Run was fought on July 24th, 1861. The 1864 Lincoln and Johnson was dug near where the battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia took place on October 19th, 1864. The Union victory there solidified control of the Shenandoah Valley virtually ensuring President Lincoln’s reelection. A scarce pair.
