Killed at Antietam

This is a CDV photo of Col. Henry W. Kingsbury, who was one of the most famous casualties at the battle of Antietam.  He was mortally wounded leading the 11th Connecticut in the charge over the Burnside Bridge (which is pictured with the CDV).   According to the Time Life Civil War series, page 122 of The Bloodiest Day, “So highly regarded was the 25-year-old officer that General Ambrose Burnside issued a proclamation mourning his death.  A West Point classmate wrote that Kingsbury had embarked on ‘a career which nothing but death could terminate in failure.’”  CDV is on a plain mount with no border and image goes to the edge.  With only minor age spotting and a strong dark image this specimen makes a fine presentation!  Note that it is the same pose as used in the Time Life series.  A “must” for the Antietam collector!
