From Our Gettysburg Collection, One of Our Prized Relics: A Kearny Cross Found on Private Land Adjacent to the Battle of Gettysburg
This badge measuring 1 ½ x 1 ½ inches is made of brass. On the front is “KEARNY CROSS” and on the reverse is “BIRNEY’S DIVISION”. This badge was awarded for valor to members of General Phil Kearny’s old 1st Division of the 3rd Corps. It was authorized by General Order No. 48 on May 16th, 1863. On the wearer of this cross had probably received it not too long before the Gettysburg Campaign. One of these crosses is pictured on page 172 of the book Civil War Artifacts by Howard R. Crouch. We will give particulars regarding the digger to the purchaser. It has been in our collection for over 30 years.

Condition: A fine uncleaned patina. Display this piece with a photograph of the front and back and you have a beautiful display of this rare relic.
