Offered is the only First Corps, First Division Corps badge that we have ever owned! First of all, there is only one “type” of metallic Corps badge that we will buy or sell… the type that we have actually seen “used” and actually excavated! This type of badge is made of stamped brass, commercially manufactured, with stippled appearance. See page 12 in Stanley S. Phillip’s book on Civil War Corps Badges for this exact type… and one identical to the one we are offering.
Our Corps badge is NON-EXCAVATED and was ACTUALLY USED!!! It retains a totally untouched patina, the original pin on the back and 80-plus % of the original First Division red paint. The famous Iron Brigade regiments: 19th Indiana, 24th Michigan, and the 2nd, 6th and 7th Wisconsin wore this type of Corps badge.
Over the years we have had a number of “inscribed”, silver First Corps badges… the type a soldier would buy from a New York jewelry company, but this is the ONLY STIPPLED PAINTED TYPE that we have owned! We have had a number of 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th stippled badges, one 2nd Division (blue) First Corps badge and two 3rd Division First Corps badges… So here is your chance to get our “favorite”!
The badge is in perfect condition, no dents and magnificent for display! A true “prize” for the badge or uniform collector!
