Highest Casualty I.D. Tag

I.D. disk owned by John Lynn, a resident of Bradford, New Hampshire, who enlisted on 8/23/1861 when he was 19 years old.  The regiment John was in turned out to be one of the hardest fought regiments in the Union Army… the regiment that suffered more combat casualties than any other, the Fifth New Hampshire.  This regiment was assigned to the First Brigade, First Division of the Second Army Corps.  The Fifth participated in many engagements including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Cold Harbor, where unfortunately John Lynn was killed.  His death occurred on 6/3/1864 at the age of 22.  Condition of the tag is excellent with a great uncleaned patina, having traces of original gold gilt showing through in places.
