If you collect autographs of Confederate Cavalry leaders, here is a real beauty!
YR. AFFECT. SERVT.
B. H. ROBERTSON
The autograph is on blue-grey Confederate paper and was taken out of an 1864 autograph album. There is still glue on the reverse from being in the album (this could be easily removed by a conservator). The ink is nice and bold… and you really couldn’t find a nicer example of Robertson’s signature! He served as Colonel of the 4th Virginia Cavalry, was with Stonewall Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and was appointed Brigadier General on June 9th, 1862. Our example is the rank he held at the battle of Gettysburg WHEN HE SERVED UNDER JEB STUART.
