The Beman Mounted Infantry is listed as Company E of the Linton Stephens’ Battalion, Local Defense Troops. The Commission is dated August 1st, 1863.

Henry D. Beman fought throughout the war in various “local defense” units, protecting his homeland of Georgia. This Commission measures 8 ½ x 12 inches, and has a large signature of Joseph M. Brown, the Governor. Condition is fine with one ink acid burn in Governor Brown’s signature.

A great example showing Georgian’s effort to repel the Yankee invasion of their state.
