Museum Quality Americana
John Burns, the “Hero of Gettysburg,” became quite a celebrity after his battle exploits. Burns had his picture taken repeatedly and signed quite a few copies. Our example, however, is rare… because Burns when he signed his photo placed 95% of his autographs on the back of the CDV. In the past 30 years, we have only seen 2 other examples of a front signed Burns! This CDV is in excellent condition with a slight loss of the border gold stripe beneath the signature. The reverse shows stains from mounting, not affecting the Anthony/Brady Imprint in the center. It is a true show piece for the photography or Gettysburg collector. Be sure to look at the 1863 letter of Burns in our Bloody Gettysburg section. They would make a magnificent pair!
