French Man-of-War Arrives in Charleston Harbor - Gives Intelligence to the South!!!

This telegram from Gen. Wilmot DeSaussure to Gov. Bonham tells of the arrival at Charleston of a French man-of-war that reported that all the enemy fleet have left Port Royal; a fight was going on in the morning near Savannah; that Gen. Jordan has asked that as many hands should be sent down as practicable:

“Received at Columbia Feb. 19, 1863

By telegraph from Charleston 19 to Gov. Bonham

            French man of war Mulan

            arrived here and reports

            all of the enemies fleet

to have let Port Royal a fight

was going on all this morning

  near Savannah Genl. Jordan

thinks at Genesis Point but had not

  recd any official intelligence

I am desired by Gen. Jordan

to beg that as many hands

should be at once sent down

  as practicable.

                                    Wilmot G. DeSaussure”

This was telegraphed “The Southern Telegraph Companies” form and since the message was lengthy, it took two forms.  Since there is writing only on one side of the form, find a photo or a print of a French Man-of-War ship and frame up this neat item!  Written in dark ink, from the actual personal papers of Governor Bonham, taken from his office in Columbia before it was burned.
