THIS IS AN ACTUAL 11 X 14 inch ALBUMEN PHOTOGRAPH PRESENTED BY SECRETARY OF WAR,
EDWARD STANTON, ON APRIL 14, 1865, UPON THE RE-RAISING OF THE FLAG AT FORT SUMTER!
A limited number of these photos showing the ruins of the fort were presented by Stanton to important guests at the flag re-raising. This particular photo was presented to “Brvt. Major Charles R. Suter, Chief Engineer Dept. of the South, April 14, 1865.” In the left hand corner it is signed by Brigadier General Richard Delafield, who apparently oversaw the photography and presentation process. In the photo off to the left you can clearly see a steam-powered gunboat and on top of the fort men standing beside several cannons. The photo itself is in excellent condition, not faded at all. The large mount has been professionally repaired closing quite a number of tears (not affecting the photo). When framed this rare presentation photo will make a stunning display piece!
