Wonderful Folk-Art Drawing of the Gulf Coast Squadron Steamer U.S.S. Adela which Chased Blockade Runners
This hand-drawn picture of the USS Steamer Adela was drawn by George H. Rogers who served on that ship. The drawing has fantastic detail and tastefully colored in brown, red, white and blue. At the bottom he writes: “For Effie, drawn by G. H. R.” Rogers used the front of an envelope for his drawing. The envelope is mounted on an 8 x 9 inch page and below the drawing he has written in period ink: “On blockading service off the coast of Florida, winter of 1863. George H. Rogers”.

Rogers was the uncle of Effie M. Rogers. He served as an Apothecary on the Adela. Rarely do you find such a beautiful piece of solider or sailor art.
