STOLEN 8/13/17 -  One of the Most Famous Passes from the Army of the Potomac "Head Quarters Military Department of Washington, July 15th, 1861"... With an Enormous Ink Signature of DRAKE DE KAY, Aide de Camp to General Mansfield

Everyone who collects Civil War paper, or early Washington, D.C. area documents, needs an example of Drake De kay.  Offered is the finest example we have ever seen… it’s as if De Kay used a magic marker!  This early war piece dated July 15th, 1861 passes Mr. Edward Minturn to work “daily 1 week over the bridges and within the lines”.

The Commanding General Mansfield would be killed at the battle of Antietam a year later.  Check out our photo… unbelievable!  The pass is filled out in bright red ink (not faded at all) and signed with black ink.  The pass was folded, obviously to be carried in a pocket and there is an old repair to one seam on the reverse.  The reverse is also signed by Mr. Edward Minturn.

A great conversation piece!
