An Interesting Note Written by the First Cousin of Nurse Clara Barton -Edmund “Ned” Barton -He writes on a “Captured” Confederate Form
This souvenir was taken out of Ned Barton’s Civil War scrapbook. The note measures 4 x 7 inches and is written on a Confederate post office form. On the reverse (the side that has the post office printing), he has written in ink “Taken at Garrett Station, Va., Dec. 9, 1864 Ed M. B.”

Now for his note:

Weldon R.R. Near
The Yellow House
Dec. 12, 1864

Dear Mother,
                       I have only
Time to write that we
have returned from our
successful raid.
Rather tired but ready
for the order just received
to be ready to move again
at a moment’s notice.
Saw Capt. Lee near Nottawa
Creek. Was not very well.
Is in camp by this
morning no doubt. We
marched home this p.m.

Love to all, Ned. M. B.

On Reverse:

Taken at Garrett Station, Va.
Dec. 9, 1864

Ed. M. B

Included are several copies of pages taken out of the book, “A Woman of Valor” (The Life of Clara Barton) which mention Edmund “Ned” Barton. Condition is very fine.
