This ALS from Governor Bonham of South Carolina is written to C. M. Furman in Charleston, S.C. Furman had proposed to Gov. Bonham that uniforms be purchased in England. Bonham copies a letter that a Mr. James M. Calder had written to him regarding the specifics of ordering uniform cloth. So, the top of the letter is an ALS by Bonham and then he copies Calder’s letter. Any letters talking about uniforms, equipment from England that is going to be run through the blockade, etc. is extremely rare and desirable! This particular piece is Gov. Bonham’s retained copy… all in his hand and written on the back of a blank election voting form for soldiers! Condition is fine with some staining on the edge.
