The Collector of the Port of Georgetown, S.C. Imprisoned on Charge
of Treason! - ALS by S.C. Governor F. W. Pickens June 7, 1861
Here is a great item especially if you live in Georgetown, S.C. This ALS, all in the hand of S.C. Gov. Pickens, would be great for additional research. Who as this “Collector” of the port of Georgetown and what eventually happened to him? What was his “treason”? The letter is in fine condition… perfect for framing and a fine example of the grouping of letters that were taken from the State House in 1865 before it was burned.

To Atty. Genl. Haynes
Sir
The Collector of the port of Georgetown had been imprisoned
for months on charge of treason. Perhaps you ought to order him removed
elsewhere for trial as soon as possible, and at least removed from his present
place of confinement.Respectfully,
F. W. Pickens
