Chasing Morgan’s Raiders – Actual Order from Col. Thomas Pattison from Aurora, Indiana Dated July 13th, 1863 – Writing to Gen. Mahlon D. Manson Giving Him the Location of Morgan’s Raiders!
This 5 ½ x 7 ½ inch note was telegraphed to Gen. Manson:

Aurora July 13th, 1863
11:50 A.M.

Gen:

The following just rec’d from one of the scouts. “The Rebels are on the I.C.R.R. (Indiana Central Railroad) at Weisburg. Mr. Terrill saw them fire the water tank and saw two bridges burning. They camped on Frank Ferris’ place.”

                                                Thos. Pattison

Thomas Pattison, a resident of Aurora, Indiana, enlisted in August of 1861 as a Colonel in the 18th Indiana Infantry. He resigned in June of 1862 and was at home when Morgan was threatening.

On the reverse is written the docket:

“Thos. Pattison Aurora 12:10 A.M.”

A nice “action” example from John Hunt Morgan’s famous raid.
