Dated June 5^th, 1863 at “Camp, near Falmouth, Va.”, Lieut. Colonel Alfred B. Chapman receives a new stand of colors for the 57^th regiment of New York Volunteers.  This document is all in Chapman’s hand.  THIS WOULD BE THE FLAG THAT WOULD BE CARRIED AT GETTYSBURG LESS THAN A MONTH LATER!!!  13 months after Chapman signed this form, he was killed during the battle of the Wilderness (5/5/1864).  Condition is excellent.  A very historic document from a brave New Yorker who gave his life for the Union!
