Dated June 5th, 1863 at “Camp, near Falmouth, Va.”, Lieut. Colonel Alfred B. Chapman receives a new stand of colors for the 57th regiment of New York Volunteers. This document is all in Chapman’s hand. THIS WOULD BE THE FLAG THAT WOULD BE CARRIED AT GETTYSBURG LESS THAN A MONTH LATER!!! 13 months after Chapman signed this form, he was killed during the battle of the Wilderness (5/5/1864). Condition is excellent. A very historic document from a brave New Yorker who gave his life for the Union!
