Lt. Col. Virgil Broderick led the famous 1st New Jersey Cavalry beginning as a Captain in 1861 rising to Lt. Col. in February of 1863. On June 9, 1863, during the Gettysburg campaign, Broderick was killed during the largest Cavalry battle ever fought on U.S. soil… Brandy Station, Virginia. He is buried in the National Seminary, Culpeper, Va. at the foot of the flagstaff. Image is in fine condition with the exception of the corners being rounded for easier insertion into the album it came out of. The photographer is Wenderoth & Tailor, Philadelphia.
