Confederate Telegram Mentions Blockade Runner "Fanny"

This telegram from Wilmington, North Carolina, dated February 20, 1864, was written by C. T. Mitchell, a Confederate blockade runner agent in Wilmington.  Writing to Governor Bonham, Mitchell states that the Confederate government Navy Secretary, S. R. Mallory, “demands 1/3 of the Fanny holds & unless we consent she will be stopped.”  The telegram is docketed on the back, probably by Governor Bonham.  A scarce document with the mention of a blockade runner ship and showing how the Confederate government pressured private enterprise for their war purpose.
