Rare War Date Document Signed Twice by Confederate Guerrilla Leader Harry Gilmor
This requisition for forage was originally a U.S. Army form. The Confederates have crossed out the “U” and put “C” each time it appears. The heading at the top reads, “Requisition for forage for public horses in the service of Gilmor’s company Robinson’s Brigade of Cavalry C.S. Army for thirty days commencing the 1st of July 1862 and ending on the 20th of July 1862 in Valley of Virginia.”

Below that, the amount of horses and daily allowance is listed. It is signed in a bold dark ink: “H. W. Gilmor, Capt. Commanding Company”.

Below that: “Received at camp in Valley, Va. H. the 1st & 20th of July 1862, of Capt. William McClellan, A. Quartermaster C.S. Army fourteen thousand eight hds. & eighty pounds of corn. Seventeen thousand three hundred & sixty pounds of hay.”

Below that, is an even larger signature:

“H. W. Gilmor 
Capt. Comdg. Company” 

The document measures 10 x 8 inches and is in fine condition. War date Harry Gilmor autographs are extremely rare.
