For the Alabama or U.C.V. Collector: An Amazing "Souvenir" Printed in Indiana Knocking the Way the Montgomery Daily Dispatch Glorified Jeff Davis on the Occasion of Laying the Cornerstone on his CS Monument - Colorful CS Flags, 4/28/1886
If this hadn’t been folded up in a large book, there is no way that it would have survived as it is approximately 20 x 24 inches. It was printed by the Hasselman–Journal Co. Indianapolis, Indiana in 1886. As I am sure you know the paper used in the 1880’s just did not last. Since this one was folded in a book, the colors of the Confederate flags are bright and beautiful. The gist of the 14 or so articles/quotes surrounding the flags all glorify Jeff Davis in the South. Apparently, the Hasselman-Journal Co. published this to show that the South “ignored and treated with contempt” the flag of the Union.
This piece with its vibrant Confederate flags would look wonderful framed and hanging on the wall. We have never seen another one and it is very possibly a “lone survivor”.
