Finest CS Battle Shirt Tintype

This outstanding sixth-plate tinted tintype came from the Peed family of King George County, Virginia.  We purchased it along with family letters from a picker about 15 years ago and it has been in our collection ever since.  While the exact I.D. is not known, all we can say is that he is a member of the Peed family or a relative.  The Peed brothers both were members of the 9th Virginia Cavalry and fought under Jeb Stuart.  However, prior to entering the 9th they were probably in Virginia early war militia units… and this guy definitely looks like he was off for the war in early ‘61.  We have never seen an image with a better battle shirt!  He is holding his musket and has his C.S. cap box and cartridge box on his belt.  This guy is one cool Confederate!  Condition is spectacular!
