Brother against Brother

Items from the 1st Maryland are very desirable as the 1st Maryland U.S. met the 1st Maryland C.S. several times during the war, to make the conflict truly brother against brother!  John A. Burton, a native of Baltimore, age 27th, enlisted at the very start of the war on 5/18/1861.  This early in the war, Baltimore was truly a divided city, having many southern sympathasizers.  Burton mustered into Co. D of the 1st Maryland, staying in his full three years and mustering out on 5/19/1864.  He became a P.O.W. on 5/23/1862 at Front Royale, Virginia.  The stencil is very solid with Burton’s name and Regiment surrounded by stars.
