Black Sailors

An early Port of Savannah document, July 16, 1814, listing the crew of the sloop Abby-Ann of Charleston, South Carolina bound for Amelia Island.  The ship Master was Henry Dickenson and his crew was entirely black.  The document lists six black sailors attached to the vessel.  The document is 7 ¾ inches by 13 ¼ inches and is signed by Henry Dickenson, Master and the custom house deputy collector, James S. Bulloch.  Document is in fine condition considering it is close to 200 years old!
