Big Bowie North Carolina Reb.

This triple-armed, sixth-plate tintype was found in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The image is of A. B. Vaughn, who enlisted in 1862 into the 60th North Carolina Regiment.  The 60th N.C. was heavily engaged at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, plus many other battles in Tennessee and Georgia.  Vaughn holds a massive Bowie, has a pistol in a holster on his belt and is holding his musket with bayonet attached.  The tintype is of typical a southern manufacturer.  There are no major issues other than the fact of somewhat poor workmanship to start with.  The image is of average brightness.  Vaughn wears a very interesting double width belt.  For the collector of Confederate accoutrements who desires images showing the actual use of such items, this image is important!  For the collector of Bowie knives, this image is essential!  The I.D. in back of the image is readable, but extremely brittle and in pieces.  We have placed a small piece of Mylar over the paper to protect it.  For further information about the history of this image, do not hesitate to call us!
