Special requisition for the 2^nd Regiment for U.S. Sharp Shooters commanded by Major Homer R. Stoughton and signed in full by him.  Stoughton led the Sharp Shooters at Gettysburg.  The requisition is for 1,460 Sharps rifle cartridges cal. 52 and for 2,000 percussion caps.  The document measures 8 ½ x 14 inches, but can be folded (better for display) 8 ½ x 9 ½.  The document is in fine condition with a few minor age spots.  Stoughton had quite a military career enlisting in Vermont in 1861 and mustering out in ’65.  He was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, taken prisoner at Petersburg and imprisoned in Macon, Ga. and Columbia, SC.   Stoughton’s signature is dark and strong and this document would be excellent in a Berdan, Sharps or Ordnance display.
