Gen. Beauregard Issues Orders in Charleston Dec. 2, 1862: Rutledge Mounted
Riflemen; Negro Laborers on Sullivan's Island, Palmetto Guards, etc.

Here is a nice set of special orders issued by Gen. P. G. T. Beauregard in Charleston in December of 1862.  The document is signed by Capt. John M. Otey.  The document is written on official “Head Quarters Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Fla. Stationary.  There are a total of 7 orders given for this “Special Orders No. 240”.  


                        Here are a few:

            “II. Private P. B. Bacot Rutledge Mounted Riflemen is detailed on extra 
            duty for Hospital service and will report to Surgeon Theo. A. Dayan at 
            Florence, S.C.”


            “VIII. Pvt. I. B. W. Philips Palmetto Gd’s is hereby detailed on extra duty 
             & will report to Col. Gonzales Chief of Arty.
