Here is a war date autograph of Benjamin S. Ewell that reads:

“Very Respectfully

Your Obedient Servt.

Benj. S. Ewell

A.    A. Genl.”

The autograph measures 1 ¼ by 3 ½ inches and is written in nice dark ink.  There is show through of the glue used from the autograph scrapbook it came out of.

Interestingly Benjamin’s brother Confederate General Richard S. Ewell was his younger brother!  The College of William & Mary lay in ruins after the Civil War and it was Ewell who built it back together and served as President.
