STOLEN 8/13/17 - Attorney's Appointment to Practice Law in the "Independent" State of South Carolina, May 7th, 1861 - Great Looking Document!
If you are a lawyer in the State of South Carolina… or just like great Confederate documents, here is a real beauty! The Appeals Court of South Carolina Certifies that Charles M. Creswell is qualified to act as an Attorney in the Courts of Law.
What makes this document so interesting is that after the date, Seventh Day of May in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty One, they have made a slight change:
After: “And in the eighty fifth year of the Sovereignty and
Independence of…” they have crossed out “the United States of America”
and written in “State of South Carolina”.
The document measures 8 ½ x 15 inches, is on beautiful blue paper and is signed by the Chief Justice and the Clerk. A super document to frame up and display in a law office or a collector’s relic room.
