The Half-Plate Ambrotype of Col. Wharton J. Green – Wounded & Captured at Gettysburg + The book he wrote after the war of his exploits…
In 50 years of collecting, we have only had a handful of half-plate images. They are 100 times rarer than quarter-plates. A half-plate tintype of an unidentified Confederate officer recently sold for $18,750. We were in amazement when looking behind our half-plate to see a full, period ink I.D.:

We knew all about Wharton J. Green without even having to look him up… sited for bravery many times, captured twice, wounded several times at Gettysburg, and tried to escape from Johnson’s Island Prison! His whole story is in the book he wrote after the war entitled, Recollections and Reflections – An Auto of Half a Century and More. The image is pristine, ready for display as it is in a case with no cover. The best image we have ever owned.
