For you Illinois fans, here is an ALS by Major George Hicks of the 96th Illinois Infantry.  It is four pages in ink.  The content has to do with George G. Ferguson receiving his commission for 1st Lieutenant and being Quarter Master.  There are a lot of names of Officers in the 96th mentioned, so for the historian of the 96th, this would be a good letter! 

The 96th was decimated at the battle of Chickamauga losing 220 of its rank and file… over 50% of the men engaged being killed.  There are several battle reports of Major Hicks on the Civil War Database.
