traitor" - He Would be Killed at Antietam 6 Weeks Later!
This letter is written on legal size paper, in nice dark ink and is four long pages. It is headed “Camp near Harrison’s, Virginia July 24th, 1862”. Sgt. John Briggs was a member of Company D, 8th Ohio Infantry and he was killed on 9/17/1862 at Antietam, Maryland. He is buried in the Antietam National Cemetery gravesite number 1340. We have corrected spelling errors to make for easier reading.
Letters from the 8th Ohio are especially desirable!
