8th Illinois Cavalry Ribbon

One of the most famous Cavalry Regiments at Gettysburg was the 8th Illinois which had been finally tuned by Brig. Genl. Elon John Farnsworth, who would be killed leading a charge there.  The ribbon we are offering was distributed to veterans of the 8th at the 50th Anniversary at the battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 1913.  The ribbon has bright colors and is not faded.  It has only one minor hole and is in overall fine condition.  On the reverse of the ribbon is printed “Compliments of John C. Ketcheson, Co. G. Sergt. – Maj., 8th Illinois Vet. Cav., Leavenworth, Kansas.”  Obviously, this is a very rare and desirable ribbon.  It is the only one that we have ever seen!
