COMMEMORATING THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CIVIL WAR WITH

THE FINEST ORIGINAL SOLDIER'S LETTERS AND ARTIFACTS
Silver-Plated Excavated 6th New Jersey I.D. Tag - A Real "Eye-Catcher"!

This I.D. tag is the pewter Washington style.  These tags were heavily silver-plated and our example still has 80-plus percent of its silver plating still present.  This I.D. or “dog tag” literally jumps out at you!

                                                               Inscribed on the tag is:

“B. Anderson

Co. G

6th Reg.

N. J. V.

War of 1861

Camden, N. J.”

Benjamin Anderson enlisted on August 9th, 1861 as a Private in Company G of the 6th New Jersey Infantry.  He was taken prisoner at the 6th New Jersey’s first battle – Williamsburg, Virginia, and paroled.  It was in the vicinity of Williamsburg (York County) that this incredible tag was excavated.

The obverse showing Washington’s portrait has minor chipping and ground action around the rim.  The reverse has almost no ground action and the stamping jumps out at you.  This is truly one of the most beautiful excavated I.D. tags that we have had or seen!
