Signed on the Front CDV – James H. Kellogg, 6th Michigan Cavalry – Under Custer in the Gettysburg Campaign, was Wounded and Captured at Falling Waters, Md.
Here is a great looking CDV of one of Custer’s Michigan Wolverines. The CDV is a chest up pose of Kellogg who signs in dark ink on the front: “Yours truly, Jas. Kellogg Capt., 6th Mich. Cav.” The CDV shows wear, but no staining or fading. The backmark is: “JNO. HOLYLAND METROPOLITAN GALLERY, 250 Pennsylvania Ave. WASHINGTON, D.C.”

After being wounded and captured, Kellogg was confined at Macon, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. It is interesting to note that Custer had assumed command of the 3rd Division of Cavalry on the morning of July 15th, 1863 the day after Falling Waters.
