Here is your chance to buy an I.D. pin from a trooper who fought with the Army of the Potomac Cavalry Corps. under Commanders like Pleasonton, Buford and Kilpatrick, then in 1864, under Sheridan! William H. Harrison joined Company B of the 3rd Indiana Cavalry on 2/14/1863, later transferring to Company F. For the next two years, Harrison would be in all the major battles fought by the 3rd Indiana including Antietam, Upperville and Gettysburg. Fighting under Buford, it kept the enemy in check for two hours until the arrival of the 1st Corps. on June 30th. This type of pin is repeatedly pictured in ads in the back of Civil War Newspapers like Harpers Weekly. They refer to it as a “Company Pin,” as the soldiers company is large and centered on the pin. The pin is silver with traces of gold gilt still showing in the background surrounding the letter ‘F’. The ‘T’ bar pin on the reverse has rusted away and there is a slight crease across the bottom portion of the front. This does not detract from the tremendous eye-appeal that this pin has! It is an excavated piece that any relic hunter dreams about!
